Hello everyone!
In preparation for our upcoming competition season, we will be hosting a mock meet again this year. The date we’ve chosen for this practice competition will be Friday, January 27th. For those who already train on Fridays, we will keep our regularly scheduled hours. I would like to aim for a 5 o’clock start time, and ask that those groups who do not normally train on Friday nights come ready to begin their warm-up at that time.
Regarding attire, if your daughter already has her competitive suit she should wear it to the mock meet. However, if your daughter has not yet received hers, or if last season’s suit no longer fits – no worries! I would just ask that all of the girls wear a leotard at the very least.
In terms of hair, let’s try to meet competition requirements as well (this is a good opportunity to see what works and what doesn’t). The only official requirement is that hair needs to stay out of the athlete’s face. Long hair should be kept in braids or a bun (versus a pony tail) to ensure that it doesn’t get in the way. However, keep in mind that the girls often have many somersaults in their routines and that hair placement may affect their comfort in doing certain skills.
The mock meet should be done by 8 o’clock at the latest. Parents are more than welcome to come watch their girls perform their routines! Though we want to include some of the formalities in order to give the athletes an idea of what to expect – this is meant to be a low pressure event! We want the girls to enjoy performing, and want them to keep in mind that they still have a couple of months to perfect their skills and routines!
If you have any further questions regarding the mock meet, or competitions in general, please do not hesitate to email me! You can also discuss with your daughter’s coach before or after training – we are always willing to help!
Thank you,
Elise
