WAG Parent Meeting Recap:

Here is a general overview of what was discussed at the parent meeting of October 26th.

What is each group working on?

– All groups (provincial & gymcat) started out focusing on basic skills and skill progressions on every event.
– We have started to learn our routines, starting off with smaller chunks and slowly memorizing the routines as a whole.
– We constantly work on flexibility and strength and put aside time to stretch and condition every practice.
– With the 4 & 6 hour gymcat groups, we’ve recently implemented a goal system. Every child has a sticker sheet with a few general goals, as well as added individual goals that they have chosen themselves. They will be taking these sheets home every few weeks.

What is coming up?

– As the competition season approaches, every group will be focusing more on routines.
– We are hoping to have a “mock meet” to start off the season and give the girls the opportunity to become more familiar with competition procedures. This will also be a chance for parents to come in and see what we’ve been working on!

What are we struggling with, and what can parents do to help?

– We want to keep technique and skills to be taught in the gym, but everyone can benefit from more stretching and conditioning! Doing so at home is completely optional, and for those who would like to have a list of flexibility and strength exercises, we will have suggestions posted on the blog. If you are looking for something more specific, feel free to ask us!
– We have had a few problems getting along in certain groups, and we do our best to catch any uncooperative behaviours. This is just something we are keeping an eye on, and if we have any real concerns we will inform parents.
– If you are able to make it on time, make sure that your child makes it onto the floor before practice begins. It is important for your child’s safety that they be properly warmed-up and stretched before moving on to events. We do understand that on some occasions you might be unable to do so.
– All of our WAG groups are given a quick break halfway through training, and we would like to encourage you to pack nutritious snacks. This also applies to pre-training meals, which should be healthy. We have had troubles with tummy aches and energy levels and recognize we can improve this through nutrition.

In general, things are going very well! We hope that the girls continue to enjoy themselves, and we want communication between parents and coaches to remain open! Please feel free to approach us with any questions or concerns.
